Bengaluru, NAPost News Service: Avid Half-Life fans are in for some exciting news as Valve has officially announced Half-Life: Alyx release for 23 March on all compatible VR headsets and controllers.
Alyx is the latest instalment in Valve’s first-person Sci-Fi adventure series after a gap of more than a decade.
Here is what Valve tweeted on its official Twitter account recently:
Valve’s official confirmation about Alyx’s release date has come just a few months after its first disclosure last November. The company had then hinted at the game’s probable release in March and now we have a confirmed release date.
Alyx will be first of its kind VR-powered game that promises to deliver immersive gameplay experiences with its unique blend of “deep environmental interactions, puzzle solving, world exploration and visceral combat.”
On the downside, the game is strictly playable only with a compatible VR headset and controller. Valve’s Index headset and controller enables you to play Half-Life: Alyx for free as the game is bundled as a complimentary offer with the game developer’s hardware.
Furthermore, the developer has confirmed that the game will work flawlessly with any headset that is compatible with SteamVR such as Rift S or a Quest.
Quest, however, requires the use of a link cable which robs its appeal as a wireless headset. On the flip side, the quest reportedly delivers good performance with gaming PCs while the Rift S stands out on the portability front with its wireless option.
The HTC Vive is another formidable option for connecting wirelessly using an adapter. Windows Mixed Reality headsets such as the Samsung Odyssey are also fully compliant with the Alyx system requirements.
However, both the HTC Vive and Samsung Odyssey are currently out of stock owing to immense demand for these headsets at the moment.
PlayStation fans may be disappointed with its lack of compatibility with Half-Life Alyx as its developer has strangely excluded it from the list. The game runs just fine with either a touch controller or trigger based controls in both sitting and standing positions.
Propective buyers may head over to the official Steam website here and preorder Alyx right away or get the game for free with every purchase of Valve Index hardware.
